Industrial Applications of CCD Color Sorter

Grain sorting—rice, wheat, cereals, etc

The working principle of rice color sorter can be summarized as follows: when the rice slowly flows down the chute, the high-speed optical camera hidden on both sides of the chute will automatically capture color information. Once it finds grains in different colors, shapes, or sizes from the healthy grains, the camera will instantly capture their images and lock them as “targets”. At this point, the optical signals will be turned into electrical signals, and high frequency solenoid valve device opens the stopcock immediately after receiving the signals. Finally, the ejector will be driven to inject high-speed and powerful airflow to exclude the foreign items mixed in the good grains, thereby enhancing the purity and quality of rice.

Bean sorting—seeds, beans, corn, nuts, etc

The CCD color sorter is a high-end machine that integrates optical, machinery, electric, and gas technologies. It adopts high-speed high-sensitivity 2048 pixel linear array CCD as the material color and shape sensor, FPGA+DSP of data processing schema, optimized optical design with automatic calibration and efficient image processing algorithm. All these features make it superior to the photoelectric color sorter in terms of minimum resolution, sorting precision, productivity and versatility.

Tea sorting—Black tea, white tea, green tea, eyebrow tea, Yunnan tea, oolong tea, pu’er tea

The tea color sorter lowers labor costs during tea processing. It improves productivity, economic efficiency and tea quality. Through precise analysis of appearance and color properties, the machine can distinguish the stems and foreign items from the tea. It achieves a 99.9% sorting accuracy.

Material sorting—quartz sand, recycled plastic, pearl, minerals, polycrystalline silicon, monocrystalline silicon, salt, monosodium glutamate, sugar, pills, etc.

The materials go into the machine from the hopper at the top of the machine, and then get distributed evenly in the chute by a vibration device. They flow along the chute and reach the sorting room. In the sorting room, the color and shape information is collected by a CCD sensor. The CCD camera sends data to the FPGA+DSP schema processor. By image processing algorithms, the processor distinguishes defects in normal materials. Then the high frequency solenoid valve device will blow the flawed materials into waste bin, and normal supplies continues to flow and fall into the bin for good products, thus achieving the purpose of removing defective materials.

Fruit sorting—dried fruits, dried vegetable, dried plants, etc

The dehydrated items often vary in shapes and sizes, and show adhesive characteristics. So a highly smooth waterfall chute is adopted to effectively solve the problem of material block. Also specially for sorting dehydrated materials, the new Guangyuan lens and control algorithms are used to sort with higher sorting accuracy and applicability. The machine can replace manual selection and save costs.
